File extension WAD stands for Where’s All the Data? Primarily, the WAD file format is applied in game archives. Game archives are packages that contain data on game graphics and different levels. The extension is associated with the series on Doom games. WAD files fall in two categories – IWADS, which are like instruction manuals on how to load games and PWADS, which offer information on the different levels of a respective game and any new features, characters or general updates.
